A common fear with a first time acupuncture patient is of course the needles. Acupuncture needles unlike hypodermic needles, are not designed to cut through the skin. The needles are hair thin and slide into the skin surface. Renea uses only sterilized, individually packaged disposable needles in her practice.
In the US acupuncture has been gaining acceptance as an effective form of medical treatment. In 1997, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Consensus on Acupuncture states that clinical experience, supported by research data, suggests “acupuncture may be a reasonable option for a number of clinical conditions”.
